YWCA to partner with local agency MiA – Mujeres in Action
YWCA is excited to announce a new partnership with local agency MiA – Mujeres in Action. Mujeres in Action provides domestic violence advocacy and support to survivors in Spokane’s LatinX community.
Through a partnership with the YWCA and using funds supported by DSHS, YWCA and MiA will provide bilingual advocacy and housing assistance to survivors in need. Services include safety planning, resources and referrals, and funds to support survivors who have housing related needs due to domestic violence.
“We are very thankful for YWCA’s support in joining forces to provide more services to Latinx survivors in our community,” said Hanncel Sanchez, Executive Director at Mujeres in Action.
Prior to becoming Executive Director in early 2020, Ms. Sanchez volunteered as a mobile domestic violence advocate for the Latinx community in Spokane for almost 2 years. It was through that work that she founded MiA in 2018. Since 2017, she has also volunteered as a sexual assault advocate with Lutheran Community Services.
“I am so excited for this new partnership. Being able to work closely with MiA Spokane means that we continue to improve services and continue to move forward on providing wrap-around services to all survivors in our community,” said Jen Haynes-Harter Director of Housing with YWCA Spokane. Ms. Haynes oversees housing and shelter programs at YWCA Spokane and has held her current position for 6 years.
