YWCA Spokane is proud to announce our new Youth Leadership Council (YLC).
What Is YLC
YLC is a diverse, youth-led group, that stands to uphold leadership, promote change, and raise awareness about teen dating violence within the Spokane community.
YLC Mission & Vision
The Youth Leadership Council’s mission is to promote healthy relationships, to shift the culture around violence and to empower youth to become change leaders in their community through education, advocacy, and activism around teen dating violence. YWCA Spokane is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, standing up for social justice, helping families, strengthening communities, and promoting peace, justice, dignity, and freedom for all. The Youth Leadership Council empowers women, families, and communities through a combination of prevention and activism.
YLC Council Opportunities
Led by YWCA Spokane’s Youth Advocate, Jessi Taylor, this council’s goals are to research teen dating violence issues & policies, use media and the arts to advocate for change, and partner with adults, youth, and organizations to promote healthy relationships, empower youth, eliminate racism and make the community a safer, healthier place for young people.
YLC Council Responsibilities
Members must attend and participate in the YLC meetings, which will be twice a month in the evenings (with the exception of school breaks). Youth will be expected to help organize and engage in a community event and other activities during the month of February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention. Youth members will receive opportunities for community service hours and other incentives for participation. Food is provided during meetings.
