Meet Becky – Women’s History Month 2023

Women’s History Month (WHM) was first celebrated on a national level in 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987, Congress designated the month of March as Women’s History Month and it has been continued through presidential proclamations ever since. Learn more at womenshistorymonth.gov.

This year, we wanted to celebrate a few of our amazing staff members who are actively creating our history every day!

Meet Becky Davila-Nicols!

Becky is the Front Desk Receptionist and has been with the agency since May of 2020.

What first drew you to YWCA Spokane?

After making the difficult decision to end my 23 years of work in veterinary medicine I knew I wanted to continue to help others in some way. YWCA Spokane’s mission aligns with my values. I feel privileged to be a part of this organization.

What do you wish more people knew about YWCA Spokane?

Fun fact: YWCA is no longer an acronym. We welcome and serve all genders.

What is your favorite part of your role?

Being the first person that people connect with at the front desk gives me the opportunity to help them feel safe and welcomed. Making those connections can lead them to keep coming back and taking part in all of the services we offer.

Describe your favorite meal.

Any meal prepared by my partner (a chef) and shared with our two (adult) children.

If you were a cookie, what type would you be?

A peanut butter blossom.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

To write beautiful songs and poetry.

What is something you learned in the last week?

That I am genuinely loved.

What are 3 words to describe YWCA Spokane?

Compassionate, empowering, inclusive.

Name a show or movie you recently watched and loved.

I always go back and watch the same shows over and over! But I really enjoyed A League of Their Own when it came out last summer.

If you magically had tomorrow off, what would you do?

I would share a day of relaxing, watching movies, playing games and enjoying delicious food with my family.
