24-Hour Helpline

YWCA Spokane’s 24-hour helpline is a free and confidential service available 24/7 to support survivors of intimate partner domestic violence and those concerned for their safety. Trained advocates provide emotional support, safety planning, information about resources, and referrals to services.

We specialize in services for survivors of intimate partner domestic violence (IPDV).

Anyone experiencing IPDV, as well as friends, family members, coworkers, and service providers concerned about someone’s safety, can call the helpline for support and information.

We define IPDV as a pattern of controlling behavior used to maintain power in a relationship by one partner over the other. This behavior includes various forms of abuse beyond just the physical.

Domestic Violence Victim Advocates at our year-round safe shelter answer helpline calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Yes. Our helpline is confidential. We are mandated to keep your information private and have extra legal protections to do so (RCW 5.60.060).

When screening into our shelter through the helpline, we do ask many questions to help assess how best to move forward. Please know we will not pressure you to share anything outside what you feel comfortable to share. We believe that your words belong to you. We also know that breaching confidentiality could be a safety risk for some survivors.

Regarding reporting of services, we do not disclose any identifying information. We only report out the number of calls and basic demographic data to funders, like other domestic violence programs do. This data helps us to illustrate to lawmakers that intimate partner violence is a critical issue in our area.

Not everyone who calls our helpline is in crisis. Sometimes people are looking for specific resources or information after hours when our main office is closed. We welcome you to call if you need support of any kind related to intimate partner domestic violence.

Absolutely. You do not need to be planning to leave in order to call. Our advocates will meet you where you are and support whatever choices are best for your safety and wellbeing.

Yes. We welcome calls from loved ones and allies who want to learn how to support someone experiencing domestic violence. We can offer tips, resources, and ways to respond safely and supportively.
