2024 Self-Care Summit

Youth 11-17yrs old can register for the waitlist today for this year’s Self-Care Summit!

A special once a year self-care celebration event centered around young women of color.

A Transformative event brought to you through a partnership between SWAG (Strong Women Achieving Greatness) and YWCA Spokane. This event centers a self-care celebration around young women of color living in and around the Spokane area.

    What: 2024 Self-Care Summit

  • When: Saturday, Jan 6th, 2024, 11:00am – 2:30pm
  • Where: HIVE, 2904 E Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA 99202
  • Who: For youth ages 11-17 years old
  • Cost: No fee to attend, all costs are covered by a local sponsor
  • Provided by: SWAG & YWCA Spokane

About the Summit

Regardless of gender, any young person who is 11-17 years old is welcome to sign up as long as they are comfortable in a space that centers the experience of individuals who identify as young women of color. With a capacity to serve up to 50 youth, this event includes special workshops and speakers talking about self-care and ways to celebrate yourself, mental  health and movement, and healthy relationships.

Brunch, prizes, and a hot cocoa bar will be provided. In addition, at the end of the day, each participant will walk away with a goodie bag filled with self-care items as well as a plan of 12 ways they can care for themselves throughout the new year.

Waitlist registration

Our event has reached its capacity for participants and we are now beginning a waitlist. Please have a parent or caregiver fill out the form below to register a youth for the waitlist. The waitlist will be first come, first serve. In the event that a confirmed participant can no longer attend, we will work our way down the waitlist and give you a call to invite your youth to join us.

About the Speakers and Facilitators

Stephaine Courtney

Founder of The Learning Project | Workshop Facilitator

Jaime is a caring leader in the Spokane community who has been dedicated to championing the empowerment of our youth for many years through her work in the Spokane School District and through her organization, Strong Women Achieving Greatness (SWAG). She is passionate about ensuring every youth she works with feels a sense of belonging and self-worth and is equip with the tools they need for self-regulation and a vision for their future. During the summit, Jaime will be focusing her keynote on talking about ’12 Ways to Celebrate Yourself’. Learn more about Jaime.  and Stephaine is a passionate educator and community activist who centers her work around the question, “What is the community’s environment saying about a child’s existence?” She is the founder of The Learning Project Network LLC which is a project based learning community dedicated to solving problems through storytelling, trainings, podcasting, and through creative resources in order to help educate our community on behalf of underserved families across Eastern Washington. Stephaine is excited to be facilitating a workshop focused on the power of movement and the importance of mental health. Learn more about Stephaine.

Lizbeth is the Prevention Coordinator at YWCA Spokane. She coordinates and facilitates the agency’s Healthy Roots curriculum which is a free educational series offering to groups of young people in our community. The curriculum focuses on building youth’s capacity to recognize and navigate unhealthy relationship dynamics. In addition, Lizbeth runs the agency’s Teen Council, a space dedicated to lifting up the voices of young people in our community.  Liz is passionate about holding space to have conversations with teenagers about relationships that they don’t normally have with adults or peers in their lives. Lizbeth looks forward to facilitating a workshop that will include open, honest, real conversations with youth about unhealthy relationship and healthy relationships. _ Kameishi “Meme” Williams, is a hairstylist and local business owner of The Sanctuary Beauty and Wellness. It is Meme’s motto that beauty has no boundaries. No matter what hair texture, type, ethnicity or gender, she is here to help Spokane’s beautiful community look and feel like the absolute best version of themselves.  Meme has been a local figure fighting for hair equality.  We are excited to have Meme join us again this year with a workshop that will will take a deeper look at what it means to provide love and care for yourself. Learn more about Meme.
