Every week, we serve over 300 women, children, and families who walk through our doors impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, and unemployment. We are excited to show you more about what we do at YWCA Spokane to provide safety, hope, and healing for those we serve each and every day.

Spring Fling 2020 – Online Paddle Raise @ Online Paddle Raise
Apr 4 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

~ Spring Fling 2020 Has Moved To An Online Paddle Raise ~

We have been closely monitoring the developments of COVID-19 to ensure our agency is taking appropriate preventative and precautionary measures in support of the well-being of our program participants, staff, and supporters. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring Fling benefit that was to be held at Anthony’s restaurant and focus on an online paddle raise.

We’re Toasting To You!

Though we may not be able to gather in person, rest assured that we are raising a glass, toasting to YOU! Many of you turned your Spring Fling ticket into a tax-deductible donation – we are so thankful for your generosity! Now, more than ever, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for our community of supporters.

Raise A Glass (And Your Paddle!) To Support Our Staff On The Frontlines

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis and the cancellation of our Spring Fling event leaves us with a shortfall of $75,000 and a sense of uncertainty regarding future income.

Meanwhile, our staff remains busy caring for those we serve. Our domestic violence safe shelter staff are working hard to keep families healthy. Other staff members are using tools like email, phone, and video chat to provide critical support for those in our community navigating the dual dangers of a health crisis that necessitates staying at home, and a home that may not be safe.

With a deep sense of gratitude for you, and with an understanding of the unique challenge of our current moment, we ask you to help us bridge that gap. If you would like to support our work and mission during this difficult time, please consider donating online today. Thank you.

Stand Against Racism 2020 Tele-Town Hall @ Your Home!
Apr 23 @ 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm

YWCA Is On A Mission To Stand Against Racism

We take a Stand Against Racism every day by raising awareness about the impact of institutional and structural racism and by building community among those who work for racial justice.

This April, 40+ YWCA agencies across the nation will host public events that engage in open and honest dialogue, with over 250,000 people, that confront stereotypes and bias as a community. The goal of these annual events is to unite our community in a bold demonstration that delivers a clear message: we are on a mission to eliminate racism.

Each courageous conversation provides an opportunity to broaden perspectives, learn new tools, and connect with a diverse community of citizens passionate about eliminating racism in our community.

Stand Against Racism 2020

This year, YWCA USA is hosting a tele-town hall to kickstart these initiatives across the country as communities adjust to the COVID19 pandemic and change their individual event structures.

Voting rights, census participation, and civic engagement are, and have always been, essential to racial justice. As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts all aspects of life, it is also exacerbating the impact of systemic and structural racism on communities of color across health, education, justice, and economic sectors. In this moment, our collective efforts to secure full access at the ballot box, to ensure a fair and complete Census count, and to stand against racism—whenever and wherever it happens—are more important than ever.

Join us for a national tele-town hall where we will:
  • Explore the issues with national leaders in the movement for racial justice and gender equity
  • Learn best practices and build skills for effective civic engagement amidst social distancing
  • Motivate and inspire our nationwide networks for the work of racial justice

In this critical moment for our nation, our collective efforts can root out injustice, transform institutions, and create a world that sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do: Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.

Speakers include:
  • Alejandra Y. Castillo, CEO, YWCA USA
  • Cecile Richards, Co-chair, Supermajority
  • Vanita Gupta, President & CEO, Leadership Conference on Civil & Human Rights
  • Valerie Jarrett, Co-Chair, United State of Women & When We All Vote
  • Ai-Jen Poo, Director, National Domestic Workers Alliance
  • Virginia Kase, CEO, League of Women Voters
  • Melanie Campbell, President & CEO, National Council on Black Civic Participation

YWCA’S NATIONAL STAND AGAINST RACISM PLEDGE

As a part of YWCA National’s annual campaign, an opportunity is provided to take a pledge to stand united in our efforts to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities.

During the event, YWCA Spokane will encourage the community to join their pledge to stand against racism by signing a pledge banner which will display at YWCA Spokane’s office. Community members will also be encouraged to complete YWCA USA’s online pledge listed below.

Please consider joining YWCA and hundreds of thousands of people across the country who will engage with us this week during YWCA’s annual Stand Against Racism – and every day.

Stand Against Racism Pledge

Mindful of the continuing affliction of institutional and structural racism as well as the daily realities of all forms of bias, prejudice, and bigotry in my own life, my family, my circle of friends, my co-workers, and the society in which I live, with conviction and hope:

I take this pledge, fully aware that the struggle to eliminate racism will not end with a mere pledge but calls for an ongoing transformation within myself and the institutions and structures of our society.

I pledge to look deeply and continuously in my heart and in my mind to identify all signs and vestiges of racism; to rebuke the use of racist language and behavior towards others; to root out such racism in my daily life and in my encounters with persons I know and with strangers I do not know; and to expand my consciousness to be more aware and sensitive to my use of overt and subtle expressions of racism and racial stereotypes;

I pledge to educate myself on racial justice issues and share what I learn in my own communities even if it means challenging my family, my partner, my children, my friends, my co-workers, and those I encounter on a daily basis;

I pledge, within my means, to actively work to support public policy solutions that prominently, openly, and enthusiastically promote racial equity in all aspects of human affairs; and to actively support and devote my time to YWCA, as well as other organizations working to eradicate racism from our society.

YWCA USA is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women. I join YWCA in taking a stand against racism today and every day.
