End the Silence Campaign

This event is part of our 4th annual End The Silence campaign. A growing number of individuals, institutions, organizations, and businesses are pledging to End The Silence by engaging in a full month of events and activities designed to promote healthy relationships, end victim-blaming, and let victims and survivors know they are not alone.

Throughout October, YWCA Spokane will encourage our community to speak up, speak out, and visually show support against the devastating silence that surrounds intimate partner violence. Dually tied to this goal of supporting survivors is preventing the phenomenon altogether. This month, we encourage parents to have real conversations with their families about the reality of intimate partner violence in order to take away the stigma survivors carry, along with teaching children about healthy relationship practices. Community members and local businesses are asked identify themselves as allies for intimate partner violence victims through a series of easy ways they can join this movement and make a difference this October. Learn how you can help end the silence.

Thank You!

Special thanks to Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop for partnering with YWCA Spokane to help #EndTheSilence in Spokane.

4th Annual End the Silence Campaign @ YWCA Spokane
Oct 1 @ 8:00 am – Oct 31 @ 5:00 pm

end the silence of domestic violence!

Please join YWCA Spokane in our 4th annual End the Silence Campaign this October! As October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, YWCA Spokane will be organizing events and campaigns throughout the month that all are invited to join in!

Each year YWCA agencies engage in domestic violence prevention and awareness campaigns during October, Domestic Violence Action Month, an effort established by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in 1981. In 2019, YWCA Spokane will launch our 4th annual End The Silence campaign.

The End The Silence campaign goal is to stop victim blaming and to ask the community to stand alongside victims and survivors of domestic violence as safe allies, making it know that they are not alone.

Learn More about End the Silence

We ask community members and local businesses to identify themselves as allies for domestic violence victims through a series of easy ways they can join this movement and make a difference throughout October. Last year, our agency focused on preventing domestic violence before it begins by encouraging parents to have courageous conversations with their kiddos on healthy relationships. Through online materials, events for parents and kiddos, or visiting college campuses to talk to young adults about healthy relationships, we helped prevent domestic violence before it ever arose.

Campaigns and event details are not available at this time. Please check back in closer to the date, or follow us on Facebook for updates of easy ways to get involved. Or, consider signing up for our newsletter for updates delivered straight to you!

Chalk Walk Mondays

Every Monday in October we encourage the community to have a chalk walk in support of victims and survivors of Intimate Partner Domestic Violence (IPDV), and also to encourage healthy relationships conversations within our community. Whether you decide to write encouraging words to survivors, draw pictures, or talk about dynamics of a healthy relationship, this will support the efforts for Domestic Violence Action Month (DVAM). We encourage all businesses, organizations, and schools to be a part of this, and we will also have this happening outside of  YWCA Spokane on both sides of the entrance on October 7th and October 21st.
