YWCA Participates In Lullaby Project

Earlier this month, Spokane SymphonySpokane Public Library, and YWCA Spokane collaborated to bring the Lullaby Project to Spokane.

The Spokane Symphony is serving as a national partner for Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project. The project “pairs new and expecting parents and caregivers with professional artists to write and sing personal lullabies for their children, supporting maternal health, aiding childhood development, and strengthening the bond between parent and child” (Carnegiehall.org). Since the Lullaby Project began in New York in December of 2011, over 4,000 families have written original songs, many of which are available at carnegiehall.org/lullabies.

The event at Spokane Public Library featured two lullabies written by two YWCA Spokane employees, Veronica Roth “Love, William and Eva” and Sabryna Williams, “I Just Blinked.” These special lullabies brought together local musicians and families into the music writing process in our community.

YWCA Spokane is pleased to have been a part of such a captivating project. Music truly has the power to connect and communicate in ways words alone do not. We hope more families are able to experience the magic of the Lullaby Project.

Enjoy this behind the scenes clip from the writing session for Veronica’s lullaby. This was after Veronica provided the words and text for the first draft. The video features, from left to right, Liz Rognes (piano), Sarah Bass (viola) and Andy Rumsey (guitar).
