Transportation often feels routine, yet for women and LGBTQ+ individuals, it can be fraught with anxiety. Safety concerns, harassment, and discrimination transform public transit into a space of fear. Addressing these issues requires better safety measures, inclusive infrastructure, and representation in decision-making to create a system that serves everyone equitably.

Day 8: History of Racism in Transportation

9월 18, 2024 Day 8: History of Racism in Transportation 댓글 닫힘

Systemic racism has deeply impacted transportation systems, influencing where infrastructure is built and who benefits from it. Historically, highways were routed through minority neighborhoods, displacing communities and creating lasting divisions. Public transit in these areas has often been underfunded, leading to poorer service. These disparities continue, affecting access to essential services and perpetuating cycles of inequality.

Day 7: Guns & Intimate Partner Violence

9월 17, 2024 Day 7: Guns & Intimate Partner Violence 댓글 닫힘

Firearms in homes with domestic abuse make situations far more dangerous. Research shows that women in such homes are five times more likely to be murdered. Guns not only escalate violence but also instill fear, trapping victims and complicating police intervention. Effective laws and victim support are crucial to addressing this issue.

Day 6: White Supremacy & Gun Violence

9월 16, 2024 Day 6: White Supremacy & Gun Violence 댓글 닫힘

White supremacy’s link to gun violence is alarming, with incidents like the Christchurch and Pittsburgh shootings highlighting this trend. Perpetrators often act out of racial hatred, using guns to target specific communities. Addressing this requires stricter gun control, better education, and improved online content monitoring.

Day 5: Pay Gap & Unpaid Labor

9월 13, 2024 Day 5: Pay Gap & Unpaid Labor 댓글 닫힘

Recognizing and valuing caregiving in policies is crucial to closing the pay gap.

Day 4: Evolution of Women’s Financial Rights

9월 12, 2024 Day 4: Evolution of Women’s Financial Rights 댓글 닫힘

Women’s financial rights in the U.S. have evolved significantly. Initially, laws limited women’s control over money and property. Milestones include the Married Women’s Property Acts, the 19th Amendment, and key legislation like the Equal Pay Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Despite progress, challenges persist.

Day 3: Race & Anti-Fatness

9월 11, 2024 Day 3: Race & Anti-Fatness 댓글 닫힘

To foster inclusivity, it’s crucial to address how weight bias intersects with racial discrimination. Anti-fatness and racial stereotypes harm both physical and mental health and can hinder access to medical care. Media often perpetuates narrow, Eurocentric beauty ideals, marginalizing diverse body types and reinforcing harmful stereotypes. Understanding these intersections helps create a more supportive environment for all.
