Keynote Speaker: Gloria Norris

Author and filmmaker, Gloria Norris began her career in New York as an assistant to film directors Brian De Palma, Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen. As a screenwriter and independent producer, her films have premiered at the Sundance, Toronto, and Tribeca Film festivals.

Norris’ book, KooKooLand, is a bracingly funny and chilling true crime memoir about a girl’s gutsy journey to escape her charismatic yet cruel father’s reign—an unforgettable story of violence, love, and, ultimately, triumph. Oprah’s magazine called KooKooLand ‘electrifying’.

Norris’s is the story of a smart, sassy girl growing up in the working class housing projects of Manchester, New Hampshire, during the 1960s and 70s, the powerful story of how one girl survives a repressive, violent environment.

Some of the issues Gloria has spoken passionately about include domestic violence, mental health issues, the prescription drug epidemic, white working class despair, and the salvation that education provides for kids like her.
