Thank You To A Caring Spokane Community

There are no words to tell theÊSpokaneÊcommunity just how grateful we are atÊYWCA SpokaneÊfor the incredible support we received at our 35th annualÊMujeres de logrosÊawards luncheon. With the support of more than 1000 guests and 50 organizations we raised over $306,000!

An event like Women of Achievement gives us the opportunity to not only honor extraordinary women who make a real difference in our community but also allows us to educate the community about domestic violence,Êits impact on survivors and their children and the important work we do every day.

ÒThe money raised at this luncheon has benefited the YWCA SpokaneÕs services for domestic violence victims and their children,ÓÊsays Regina Malveaux, Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Spokane. ÒIt has evolved into our biggest fundraising event.

This event is the vital kick off of our annual campaign. We look for the support of over $700,000 annually from the community to sustain the work we do in Spokane and in the surrounding counties. We are so grateful for an amazing start to help meet this critical need.

ÒFor 35 years, Spokane has supported the YWCA mission to help women and children who are going through some of the hardest, most vulnerable times in their lives,Ó saysÊMarlene Feist, YWCA Spokane Board Member and Women of Achievement Luncheon Co-Chair.ÊÒThrough the YWCA, we can help these families make transformational change.Ó

Raising Awareness

ÒNot only do we raise funds for important YWCA services,Ó says Mireya Fitzloff, YWCA Spokane Board Member and Women of Achievement Luncheon Co-Chair, Òbut the luncheon provides an opportunity to raise awareness about domestic violence in our community.Ó

Best-selling author Janine Latus provided the keynote address. Latus is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir If I Am Missing Or Dead about her sisterÕs death by domestic violence. Since the bookÕs publication, Latus has toured all over the world to share her story and help prevent other women from suffering her sisterÕs fate. In her address, Latus shared the story of abuse in her family and relationships, and she discussed the importance of breaking our silence so we can end the chain of domestic violence.

Community Support

ÒWe are grateful for the community supporters who show up for the YWCA Spokane year after year,Ó says Malveaux. ÒWe want to thank the table captains, companies and organizations that make this event a reality. We couldnÕt do our work without you.Ó
