Mission Moment – Self-Care Summit

About the Summit

Since 2022, YWCA Spokane has been offering youth in the community the opportunity to connect, learn, and grow at the Youth Self-Care Summit. This is a unique opportunity for young people to embrace self-love, connection, and personal growth. Designed like a conference, the summit celebrates each participant and provides a safe space for them to reflect, recharge, and learn valuable tools for maintaining their well-being.

“The Self-Care Summit provides youth an opportunity to build community with their peers and connect with caring adults,” says Chloe Bolz, YWCA Prevention Specialist. “Supportive communities serve as a great protective factor against all types of youth violence.”

A Powerful Experience

At the summit, attendees engage in intentional activities that focus on emotional regulation, community building, and self-care. This is not just an event; it’s a chance for youth to protect their peace and get in touch with themselves. “This rare space lets youth learn about loving and celebrating themselves,” shares Rachel, previous Self-Care Summit Volunteer.

As they arrive, some youth may feel anxious or uncertain, but as the day unfolds, you can see the transformation. By the end of the summit, participants are often reflective, eager to share their thoughts, and open to new friendships. It’s a beautiful journey from apprehension to connection, all within a nurturing and affirming atmosphere.

The summit features a variety of workshops led by experienced facilitators. These sessions encourage participants to discuss important topics, such as emotional regulation and empowerment. The conference-style format allows youth to rotate between different workshops and experience a range of perspectives and insights.

It is an opportunity for youth to take a break. “Dive in,” suggests Rachel. “This is a moment to be in community and do something for yourself.”

A Guiding Presence

Jaime Stacy is the founder of Strong Women Achieving Greatness (SWAG) and the keynote speaker at the Self-Care Summit. Jaime also facilitates YWCA Spokane’s summer Transformations Camps. With Jaime’s guidance, youth learn to appreciate themselves and each other.

"The importance of self-care cannot be overstated, as it is crucial for maintaining overall emotional, physical, and mental health,” says Jaime Stacy. “Equipping young people with self-care tools and techniques empowers them to prioritize their own well-being and develop healthy habits, experiencing life-long success."

Each summit brings youth from around the community together. Jaime's welcoming nature helps everyone feel comfortable exploring their vulnerabilities. She leads the Self-Care Summit with authenticity and encourages youth to embrace their individuality while recognizing their shared values.

“Jaime can notice each child, even in a room full of them,” says Rachel, speaking to Jaime’s ability to help each attendee feel seen and valued for being themselves. We are so grateful to have wonderful partners in the Spokane community who help bring our mission to life by empowering the next generation.
