Pride 2022

Each year (usually in June), the Spokane community comes together to celebrate LGBTQ+ liberation during national PRIDE month. PRIDE is an annual celebration that honors the brave individuals who fought back against police raids in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York (learn more here).

PRIDE With YWCA Spokane This June

This year, our team is excited to participate in the parade lead by Orgullo de Spokane, the following festival, and many more activities offered to celebrate PRIDE together.

A Special Shelter Celebration

This year’s PRIDE offered our shelter team an extra special moment of celebration. Pre-pandemic, our domestic violence shelter staff would meet quarterly for a team potluck. Due to the pandemic this gathering did not take place. Thankfully, this June our shelter team decided it was finally safe enough to gather together for their first in-person potluck in over 2 years!  They decided to make it a PRIDE themed gathering which made it extra special. We are so grateful for this incredible team of dedicate staff who provide critical life saving services to the Spokane community 365 days a year.

YWCA’s Racial & Social Justice Work

Sincere gratitude to YWCA Spokane’s Racial and Social Justice Committee and to YWCA’s new Equity Coordinator, Lara Estaris, for leading the way this June with many ways to celebrate PRIDE.  Learn more about YWCA Spokane’s racial and social justice work here and consider making a donation today so we are able to not only provide free and confidential programs and services to our community but to also support and uplift racial and social justice efforts within Spokane and serving as a voice for what is right, fair, and just.

Past Pride Celebrations

In 2020, YWCA was proud to join the virtual celebration with a special PRIDE video created by staff! This year, we collected thoughts on PRIDE from our staff. Read the quotes on our blog!
