Every year, we take a moment to reflect on the past twelve months and examine the impact of our service in the Spokane community. Each year, our clients, our staff and our funders reinforce the importance and meaning of the work we do here at the YWCA Spokane—Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women.
We started 2022 by evaluating the impact COVID -19 had and continues to have on our operations here at YWCA Spokane. During the pandemic, many of our services were modified to allow for some type of remote delivery model. Our clients tell us that transportation and childcare are significant barriers to accessing our advocacy, legal and therapeutic services. So, where possible, we continue to support remote access to our services.
We housed, nurtured, educated and walked along side over 14,000 individuals during 2022. In addition, we returned to in person fundraising events. With careful consideration and caution, we were able to successfully hold our Women of Achievement Awards luncheon and our Evening in Tuscany dinner. Gathering together to support our mission and one another was gratifying.
After two years of pandemic related constraints, we looked to 2022 to review our programming and address where we were experiencing gaps. We recognized that to really live into our mission to eliminate racism that we needed to dedicate full time staffing and leadership to the work. We added an Equity Coordinator to our staff to focus on our social justice work and to collaborate with other community organization to raise up the work of eliminating racism.
As part of this expansion, we established a new department focused on engaging our community in this work. Through awareness, education, and prevention efforts centered around the intersections of inequity, poverty, and intimate partner domestic violence, our new Community Engagement department work to promote community collaboration and action that furthers the mission of YWCA Spokane. Which in turns helps to prevent future harm in our community.
The collective team of YWCA staff, every day, find ways to create and maintain meaningful connection to the survivors and families that walk through our doors. Their work is sponsored, supported and highlighted by individual, corporate and government funders. I am grateful to all.

YWCA Spokane’s Impact In 2022
Last year, through our free, trauma-informed one on one sessions, classes, trainings, learning series, support groups, and other services we provided over 20,000 touchpoints to over 14,000 community members within the greater Spokane area. Below are outcomes reported across our programs and services:

In 2022, 180 volunteers contributed over 3,100 hours of their time, skills, and service to YWCA Spokane! This amazing gift to our agency saved YWCA Spokane an estimate of $80,000 last year! Truly amazing! In addition, we received outstanding support from YOU our community. We were able to remain strong and able to serve those who needed our services most because of you. You didn’t hesitate to meet our call for support. We can’t thank you enough.
