Prevention Efforts Recap: Pathways Forward
LOCAL EXPERTS JOIN YWCA SPOKANE TO DISCUSS PREVENTION EFFORTS FOR YOUTH
During Teen Domestic Violence Awareness Month, YWCA Spokane was joined by Citlalli Briseño, Program Supervisor for Mujeres in Aktion, and Kami LaMoreaux, Violence Prevention Coordinator for Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Coalition, to speak about their work with young people. Hosted by Lizbeth Reyes, YWCA Spokane’s Prevention Coordinator, all three spoke about challenges they face and what brings them joy in their work, as well as additional resources and how each one of us can advocate for prevention work.
Nationally, we see that 1 in 3 young people will be in an abusive or unhealthy relationship. Of those that experience dating abuse, only a third of them will go on to tell a trusted adult. Experiencing violence in youth can have long-lasting impacts. Teens who’ve experienced violence are more likely to experience alcoholism, eating disorders, violent behaviors, and thoughts of suicide. This makes it all the more critical to prevent violence before it occurs.
Thank you again to our panelists and participants that came with such great questions for our experts! We hope you stay engaged as we continue to hold critical discussions about issues that affect our community and impact our work through this Pathways Forward series. The solutions to address domestic violence should involve all of us because it impacts all of us. Thank you to all that continue to do this work.
- End the Violence Conference | Tue, Feb 28, 2023, 9:00 AM – Wed, Mar 1, 2023, 4:00 PM PST
