A Statement From YWCA Spokane
YWCA Spokane stands in solidarity with the condemnation of yesterday’s terroristic acts. This was an insurrection. It was a threat to the equality of every citizen of this nation. The violence and riots were intended to halt the constitutional duties of our elected officials, threatening the heart of our democracy.
What happened yesterday is unacceptable. We need to chart a path towards justice. As stated yesterday by Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., “We have yet to earnestly address America’s violent roots, its white supremacy or its racism. With urgency, we must. If we do not, violence, in many forms, will persist, no matter who is in office.”
At YWCA Spokane, we recognize a shared responsibility to confront racism and hate in all its forms. We believe in equality and democracy. Our mission is the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and promotion of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We demand accountability and justice. We invite all members of the Spokane community to partake in this struggle with us until justice just is.
