2021 Equity Challenge

YWCA Spokane’s 14-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge For 2021

The Equity Challenge was originally developed by Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. (#BlackMind) and co-developed with Debby Irving and Dr. Marguerite Penick (#DiverseSolutions). The plan has been adopted by organizations, associations, and corporations all over the world. Dr. Moore is director of the Privilege Institute in Green Bay, Wis., and created the Challenge to not only help people better understand issues surrounding equity, inclusion, privilege, leadership, and supremacy, but also to do so in a way that would build a habit of learning by stretching it over 21 days.

This 2021 Challenge was adapted from YWCA Dayton’s 21-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge by YWCA Spokane’s Racial and Social Justice Committee and was designed to help community members create dedicated time and space within their schedule to build more effective social justice habits, particularly around issues dealing with race, power, privilege, and leadership.

This challenge is accessible to anyone interested in learning more about racial equity and social justice and examining these issues in our own communities. This is an opportunity to dive deeper into racial equity and social justice. Thank you for accepting this challenge!

The 2021 Equity Challenge

Each challenge includes prompts suggesting you take a few moments each day to build more effective social justice habits by reading an article, listening to a podcast, or reflecting on a personal experience.

This challenge provides not only critical information and historical context to better understand systemic racism; we hope it proves to be a catalyst for ongoing participation in racial and social justice efforts that help to create a fair, just, and equitable community.

Thank you to the 450+ people who signed up for our 14-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge in 2021!

YWCA Spokane’s 2020 Equity Challenge

June of last year, we launched our very first racial equity and social justice challenge with great success. Over 600 people registered and many let us know they planned to share the challenge with their teams at work and with friends and family. We estimate that 1000 community members joined us! We received powerful feedback from many participants who took the challenge. We are so grateful this free resources has provided value to our community.

The 2020 Equity Challenge is still very relevant. If you have not taken it, or would like to take it again, you are welcome to do so. All the resources can be found through the below link.
